What the … ? I look waaay scarier as a Na’vi than I do in real life. Eeek!
But my Na’vi name, Niktaq’a is all kinds of awesome.
What did you think of the movie?
I was in love with the beauty of it, and bitterly disappointed by the paper-thin characterizations and trite ending. So much gorgeousness gone to waste!
However, this could have been a truly awesome kids movie. Minus the death-and-destruction and the Na’vi intimate relations, it had that epic feel and some really great themes that would have been fantastic as a middle grade epic adventure. Sigh.
That’s about all I can manage for a Monday.
The eyes follow me….

I know, right? creeepy
I loved the beauty of the movie, too. So gorgeous and powerful. 🙂
I loved the movie — and I agree that it's right up the MG boys' alley (minus the smurf love). Sure, the characterizations may have been simple and the ending predictable, but with these sort of stories (i.e., epic good vs. evil), storybook tropes are nice, IMO.
Shannon – It's amazing the power of beauty, isn't it? Methinks we fight nature on that sometimes.
Bane –smurf love Bahahaha!
I'm cool with the epic good vs. evil, but even Darth Vader had a complex motivation. Not so much the Emperor, but at least he had a more plausible desire (power) than the evil "kill the natives" general that seemed, well, trite. Still, quite enjoyable.
Where the heck is the mouth on this?! (Ha, ha.)
I haven't seen it yet, but will. And now I know to keep my want for good characters and plot expectations low. Thanks!
My hubby firmly believes that low expectations are the key to happiness. Hard to disagree with him. 🙂
Avatar reminded strongly me of Star Wars (the original, can't remember the episode number) – a corny, predictable fairy tale. Visually stunning but once I left the theatre I kind of forgot what it was about. Actually I think I enjoyed Star Wars more – pure escapism without the preaching!
It's definitely better without the preaching! Even the little kids see through that stuff.
