For my one-year blogoversary and in celebration of having 200+ followers, I’m holding a giveaway. In honor of the Ink Spells name, I will be giving away a kit to use for your very own ink-spell-making, whether of the fictional or magickal variety.
The kit includes a vintage cast-iron inkwell, which will impress your family and friends when artfully displayed in your work area. The inkwell is 6 ” square x 3.5″ high with a notched lid and metal container for ink.
…well, this stylish inkwell will add some much needed class. Of course you will need some ink and a quill to properly create your Ink Spells, and so included with your inkwell is a genuine bottle of Dragon’s Blood Ink and accompanying quill.
I’d be entering for the Dragon’s Blood Ink alone, but to sweeten the pot even further, I’ll include a 10 page critique from yours truly. Unless you consider that a form of punishment, in which case you can use the Dragon’s Blood to write an ink-spell-of-retribution.
RULES: Well there has to be some, right?
1) Be a follower.
2) Spread the word. Facebook, Twitter, blog post, tell your neighbor. It’s the honor system here, so I assume you’ll do your best.
3) Leave a comment below. Extra points for telling me what spell you would write. Negative points if the spell includes a hex on me (kidding! Not really. Karma, people, karma).
4) Because of the tricky shipping involved, inkwell and accoutremonts are limited to U.S. residents. If you are outside the U.S. you can enter for the critique alone.
Contest open until Friday, but you need to leave a comment in THIS POST. Otherwise, we’ll have spells floating all over the place, and it will just be messy.
And thank you to all my blogger friends for a wonderful year of blogging together! I’m looking forward to the year to come!

Congrats on reaching 200+ followers, Susan. I'm not entering because I'm out of country, but if I could cast a spell, it would be so everyone falls in love with my writing. But this is because I would be a spectatular writer, not because the spell warped their ability to judge what is good. π
Wow, I can't believe I'm one of the first! The spell I would write would be to get a helpful critique from an awesome writer like yourself π (that's right, I'm not above kissing up… especially for a rad contest) I'll link to you on my facebook right… now!
ooooo, I NEED to win. This would go perfectly with the Dragon Spell Book I won from Wen. I could write a truly magical spell that publishing will see a re-birth, a boom, a ravenous desire by the public to READ all our books!
(Ima follower and will cast a spell) This is such a cool contest. Congratulations on your year in blogging and many followers (I predict many more to come) π
@Stina Oh, Canada! So close and yet so horribly expensive to ship…what the heck? π And I love your spell!
@Ken I'd love to crit some steampunk, so now I'm hoping you win as well. But Mr. Randomizer won't let me cheat. Still, kissing up is appreciated. LOL π
@Tricia Oooh, bonus points for casting a spell that benefits everyone. Brava! And you already have a dragon spell book? How cool!
that is a really cool inkwell. Hmm… spells… I guess I'd conjure a spell that would make this revision I'm facing go smoothly and perfectly~ π
ehrm… and everyone else's too. (what was that about karma? ;o)
Congrats on your one-year blogoversary!!
Thank you for all the great info that you share!
Here's my spell:
Paper, ink and pen
Tools I use in my den.
Stories created from beginning to end.
May they be real or pretend.
Bring in joy and happiness
With abundance and success.
Muahahahahahaha!! lol!
I'm spreading the word on twitter:
http://twitter.com/#!/DaniyoGarcia
@LTM I totally expect you to use the spell to help your own MS! (and good luck with the revision!)
@BrownBear Rhyming spells! I'm no expert, but I think those have extra power. π Thanks for the twitterage!
How cool is that?! What an awesome prize idea, Susan – I love it!
I will link in my sidebar, and I'll FB from my home computer tonight. My spell would be a charm upon my query and MS, ensuring "dream agent" will fall in love. π
I loved your giveaway π
In general terms i like your blog. Tough you could change your header.
reisei.no.mizumi@gmail.com
@Shannon The Query Love Spell! You might have to patent that. π
@Alejandra Hey, I made that header! Er, maybe I shouldn't have admitted that. π
Awesome contest! Congrats on all the followers!
My spell would be for a large publishing deal (multiple books) with a major publisher.
I am now seriously tempted to move to the U.S.
@Nicole I hope that wish comes true, regardless of any magick involved! π
@Bryan I think you need a PO Box across the river! Oh, wait, then you'd need a passport too. Darn!
Hi Susan! I'm honored to have found your blog! It's lovely. I love the inkpot up there. I've facebooked it and am following you. I'll post a button on the sidebar of my personal blog.
π
I'd use it as a decoration or, when I'm really serious, I'll cut a feather and dip it and practice calligraphy and use it to outline my art for special projects.
I love it!
~Elizabeth π
PS–Congrats on your followers! π
@Elizabeth Thanks for the linkage and the cool pix posting on your blog! π And welcome aboard, Matey!! p.s. I'm seriously impressed by artists in general and calligraphers. I can barely write my name without a keyboard.
1) I am a follower!!!
2) I posted it on my blog, on twitter and on facebook
3) I would write a spell that would make the quill have the power to grade all of my papers so that I never had to do that again. I am teaching writing this year so when I grade papers… I grade 150 essays at a time! Very time consuming… so my magic quill would help me out big time!
Good luck everyone!
xoxo

@Jennie Awesome! Man, my kid's teachers would love that too!
Congratulations on your blog anniversary and having 200 followers… The inkpot is beautiful!
hi miss susan! wow you got 200 followers! how cool is that. i just gotta say for me i love that header you did cause its bright and cheery and it just you. that inkpot thing is neat. i didnt ever see something like that before. writing with a quill is a pretty old thing like out of the olden days. for me id write a spell that everyone in the whole world could love each other. i dont need a writing spell cause im gonna do that magic all on my own.
…hugs from lenny
@Sharon Thanks! And I'm kinda coveting the inkpot now. But I promise to give it away! π
@Lenny You just made the best spell of all! And I love your confidence about the writing – hold onto that. It's better than magic. (p.s. thanks for your sweet words about the header. π
What a creative twist. Thanks for the chance to win. I'm a follower and I've put your contest in my sidebar. If I could cast a spell, I'd make people's hearts bigger (like at the end of the Grinch movie with Jim Carrey)
@MT Thanks for the linkage! I would love for everyone's hearts to grow three sizes as well! π
What a fab giveaway, Susan! Lesseee…a spell…
I think my spell would be that anything I write has the power to be GRIPPING. I mean, people would stay up past 3 am just to finish my books and talk about it endlessly with their workmates, family, etc. They don't even have to like the book, they just feel this primal urge to READ it.
And I twitted! Twate? Er…
SUSAN!!!
HI!!!
Um, yeah, this contest is awesome. I'm crawling out of the woodwork before Nov. 1st just to enter.
So I'm a follower– check.
I, uh, shamelessly re-tweeted K. Marie Criddle's tweet, thereby spreading the word– check.
Aaaaaand I'm leaving a comment– check.
Oh, and if I could do any spell, I would conjure a jelly donut. Not only do I want one, but in the best fantasy world I've read that I can't remember the name of the author of right now, conjurations disappear after a day and take all their calories with them!
Awesome Contest! I'm sharing on Twitter.com/KelseyKetch. My spell would be for wishes to come true.
@K.Marie Thanks for the twitter love! An oh man, I would love to write that way too… π
@LT Hey! Thanks for breaking your blog-hiatus, just for my little 'ol contest here! And disappearing jelly donuts – brilliance!
@ketch Thanks for the twittering! And funny – I just wrote a flash fiction about wish-making. π
How very awesome of you, Sue! I'll put this one on my sidebar. And my spell… hmmm… I want one of those really cool ones on HP where they summon things or clean and cook with just a wave of their wands. Yes, I know, instead of saving the world I opt for those that would make me even MORE lazy. lol.
Have a great night, friend!
@Jackee Oh yeah. I would totally be saying, "Accio, Book Deal!" /nerd
UPDATE: And the winner is … @kelseyketch! Please send me an email at susankayequinn@comcast.net so I can get your address! π Thanks to everyone for sharing your Ink Spells!
Happy blogoversary! π
