There’s a reason most love stories involve healing hearts.
Some people are more naturally open-hearted than others – this isn’t good or bad, it simply is. The diversity of the human condition is what makes humanity fascinating. But having an open heart means the slings and arrows of the world pierce you more easily, and the temptation is to withdraw, or at a minimum, pull up the drawbridge that allows people inside. At the same time, one is useless as an agent of change in a world beset with hate if one is debilitated by the acid wash of the daily news.
This is only made worse by our global connectivity.
The answer?
Be that heroine in the story who dares to love in spite of her heartbreak. Be the hero who reaches past his pain and opens his heart again. Go away for a while when you need to, but come back. Be strong. If you believe love is stronger than hate (and I do), then LIVE THAT like you mean it. Actions are more powerful than words, so take those actions that right the ship of your heart and allow you to continue to exist in a world where love is radical and subversive and the thing that makes it all worthwhile.
