“Whether you think you can or think you can’t… you’re right.” -Henry Ford
I used to think this was fluff and nonsense. Some hippy, dippy magical thinking sort of thing that boiled down to “Think Positive!” Which is great and all – I’m a naturally optimistic person – but that doesn’t bear much on the reality of things. (Never mind that it’s attributed to a *car manufacturer* someone who dealt in reality pretty consistently.)
But the more we learn about the neurobiology of the brain, the more *I* learn about how the mind actually works, and the more I integrate the creative and logical parts of myself, the more I think this is *literally* true. The things I see holding people back are most often fears, very often incorrect assumptions, and almost always a failure of imagination. They literally can’t imagine the possibility of something… until it smacks them in the face as a fact. Even then, they’ll find reasons not to believe (especially if someone else is doing the thing they think isn’t possible for them).
I’m not saying there aren’t obstacles. I’m just saying the biggest one is inside your head. (And mine – but I climb over those obstacles daily, so I’m getting better at it. You can too.)
Go out and be awesome, my friends!
