ACTION and REACTION
Trump’s inauguration and the Women’s March. “Grab ’em by the pussy” and the #MeToo Movement. A bigoted politician in VA tries to push through anti-transgender legislation and a transgender woman wins his seat in the next election.
Action and Re-Action
In my personal life, an insane amount of stress and my discovery of meditation. From that comes a cascade of clarity about my life, kids, work, and my agency as a citizen of the world.
In storytelling, there’s often a dark moment when the forces of evil are arrayed against our protagonist, stripping them of everything familiar, all they hold dear, every coping mechanism they’ve relied on to navigate the world–they’re forced to dig deep and find out what they’re really made of. Old You becomes the New You that sheds the past like a molted skin and strides forth into the maelstrom, fighting it with everything you’ve got.
Stories contain the power of myth—they’re both description and prescription.
I believe we’re living in a mythic moment—-a time when, at every scale, from the individual heart up to the heart of the nation, we are digging down deep and finding out what we’re really made of. What we stand for. What’s true. And how to cope with a view of the world that is both clear-eyed and heart-breaking and still stride forth into the maelstrom, doing our part in the fight.
Because we’re in this together. #TeamProjectAmerica
2017 was the dark moment, and I’ve shed my skin. I’ve got the tools and the clarity to embrace the reality of 2018, speaking my truth, living my life fully, working for a better tomorrow for my kids and all kids. The weak, the poor, the strong, the sick… everyone deserves the promise of a better world that America represents, even now. Even in its darkest moments.
This is a thing we can do… together.
2018 looks like a lot of work, and I am here for it.
