In 2011, I started self-publishing my novels. In 2015, I hit a major milestone–funding my 3 boys’ college education with my book money. I think I floated for a full week after that (and it’s paying off in a real way now as they actually are leaving the nest).
In 2014, I started a separate penname (sexy romance) with a separate financial goal. I’m vaguebooking this part because REASONS (no, I’m not ashamed of those works–THEY ROCK–but I can’t cross the streams, ie share the penname, without hosing Amazon’s algorithms), but… I just rolled up the numbers, and I’ll hit that goal next month. It’s on-par with the college education goal, but for a separate purpose (that’s also private).
So I’m floating again.
Just wanted to share because 1 – I’m giddy, and 2 – I feel like it’s a small miracle that I can make a business out of the stories I want to tell. That’s not to knock the hard work (or to doubt the privilege I have on tons of levels), but just some gratitude… that I live in a time when this is possible to do, that I found the right author’s assistant to make it all work, and that I took that leap of faith all those years ago to TRY.
