I wrote an extensively-linked OpEd on the dangers of AI for the artistic industry in Vine Leaves Press.
The situation is fast-evolving, but AI is already attacking the arts industry in several ways, both obvious (displacing artists and replacing narrators at Apple with AI) and less obvious (shutting down SF zines by spamming with submissions and flooding Amazon).
But this is so much bigger than just writers. And that’s key to understanding what’s coming.
Refuse to use generative-AI, stand in solidarity with artists and voice actors, talk to your political representatives. AI isn’t going away—it’s only going to get more powerful—and we will wish we acted to minimize the harm, to people and to the arts, when we could.
