I was grouchy today.
There was no real reason, just one of those days: I grouched at the cat, probably yelled at the kids (more than they deserved), and generally huffed around in a bad mood. It happens.
What I didn’t expect was for it to disable my writing.
I literally couldn’t write. Not a single thing. Even this blog post had to wait until the grouch-monster had un-possessed my body.
Do you have days when you’re writing-disabled?
*Thanks to Adam Heine for pointing me to the motivational poster site.

All the time! And I wish the grouch would just pee off!
Yep. I'm easily distracted, so if I'm grouchy or upset I can't write. I'm too busy fuming over what it is that's got my panties all tied in knots. Not fun.
Absolutely. Common disabilities include:
* Grouchiness
* Lack of sleep
* Little Einsteins is on in the background
* Spousal arguments
* Boys who refuse to stay in their rooms during naptime
* Websites that let you make your own motivational posters
I suffer from grouchitis frequently. I make those my clean-house-or-read days. Usually it passes by the evening and I can a little writing in (it could be the wine or chocolate that cures it, though). π
@Jessica LOL!
@Lisa I think I need to write a panties-in-knots scene the next time the grouch monster hits! LOL
@Adam Sir, you make me laugh. And I need to get you back for introducing me to the motivational posters site. Have you heard of LOLcats? π
@Brenda Grouchitis! I love it. I passed my day by sharing the pain and making my boys all get haircuts.
hi miss susan! mostly i dont ever get grouchy cause im too busy doing stuff. i get a little grouchy when i got to take my medicine or get told "go to bed lenny!" when it past my bedtime im playing a game. i get huffyitis when i get my allowance take away when i did stuff i shouldnt do. i guess its more hard for adults cause you got lots more responsibilities so you could get grouchy lots more and lots faster.
…smiles from lenny
Heavens, yes! Interruptions when I'm trying to write makes me a real bear! I have to go for a run just to get the meanness out of me. Length of time on the trails = how grumpy I am! One day, I might just pull a Forrest Gump and run to the ocean. Either coast.
I can't write a word at the moment. I feel crappy about it. I didn't have a good weekend or a good start to the week and it is really reflects in the amount of work I got done. IE, nothing.
@Lenny Adults have no excuses for getting huffyitis (I love it!), but we do it anyway. And everyone has a bad day once in a while. But I like that you keep busy – that's the best way to avoid the grouch monster! π
@Darby Ha! Just make sure you come back from your epic run!! π
@Carol Maybe you can go for a run with Darby? π
I was super grouchy the other day and then I found out my Vitamin D levels were still low. Taking the mega-dose helped me de-grouch. But some days we're all grouchy, I guess. Typical ebb and flow of emotion.
I'm going to take a cherry chocolate bubble bath. If that doesn't cheer me up, nothing will. lol
@Jennifer A little sunshine induced VitD always makes me feel better too! π
@Carol Good luck!! And yum. π
Oh, I second Carol's suggestion! Dark chocolate, of course!
I'm aware of LOLCatz. I try not to add any to Google Reader π
Aaah, yes, I get the grouchness. I can force myself to write on those days, but the quality suffers, and my characters actually become meaner/more sarcastic. It's not too bad if I'm in my first draft, but I never edit when in grouch-mode.
