Thanks to Angela over at The Bookshelf Muse, I’m no longer requiring captcha on my comments! Why? Because she convinced me that I no longer need that to keep the pesky spammers at bay.
So, lovely readers, I’ve saved you a tiny five seconds on filling out the captcha field, but if you multiply that times the hundred million blogs out there, we’re talking 15 blogger-years saved just in comment captcha time!
Spread the word!
On the other hand if you found captcha entertaining, I apologize.

WHOO HOO!!!! i hate captcha's!!! i'll admit it. sometimes i type them incorrectly… combine that with the snail's pace my computer can have, and they can really be a time stealer!
Half of my characters got their names from captchas. 😛
@aspiring The ones that say "Are you human?" make me nervous. What if I get it wrong? 🙂
@LG I know, right? #cheapentertainment
Whew! Thank goodness! Hate those pesky little things, although, I've written a few of them down and are now using them as names in my current fantasy story… lol. AT least they're good for something!
Done.
(Awesome)
Oh, they've added a spam filter! (I didn't realize that until I followed the link). Yeah, I'll give it a whirl.
I had removed them before about a year ago, but the spam bugged me so I put it back. Back then it was either disallow Anonymous comments or use captcha. It'd be nice if I could get away with neither.
@PK I'm sure there will still be captcha in the world – now we'll have to seek it out. OR you could use the handy name generator feature in Scrivener for Windows. It's almost as cool as captcha.
@Bryan Yay!
@Adam Yeah, they've had the spam filter for a while, but I never connected it to turning off captcha, so I'm glad Angela pointed it out! I hope it works for you!
Ooh, I got rid of those a while ago. Humph…but not to my own genius. Yeah, I owe that to Elana J. 🙂
@Sheri I knew I should read Elana's blog more often!
OK, new spam filter is really interesting! I'm quite willing to give this a try, and remove the captcha.
I loved it when the captcha gave something that resembled what you were saying, though. ^^
Woot! So happy to see you spreading the word. Word Verification might not be a big deal if you only comment on a handful of blogs, but most people visit tons of them, so time is critical.
Death to captcha! LOL
Angela @ The Bookshelf Muse
Hey– Susan/Angela — thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! I've now eliminated the captcha. Wow. I never even thought about how it being a time waste, as well as a barrier to my readers.
Thanks a million!
I took off CAPTCHA a couple weeks ago, after I read posts like Angela's. Hopefully bloggers are finding it easier to comment now! 🙂
@Claudie You can keep the captcha if you want, but I already don't miss it!
@Angela LOL! Thanks for the tip!!
@Kirby You are most welcome!
@Eagle Yay! The word is spreading…
Can't say I ever found captcha entertaining. Good for you for letting it go.
@Mary Least I can do. 🙂
I took off captcha when we started the Crusade and haven't gotten any spam on my comments. Anonymous comments come to my email but I got those before… It is nice not to have to deal with it as a commenter which is what convinced me.
