This tidbit about authors now signing their e-books with a stylus on the Nook Color somehow instantly renewed my faith in all things publishing.
Why?
Because there was a need (a small one, but a real one), and the people who get things done (thank you B&N tech wizards) made it happen. Less than a year ago, Scott Westerfeld had to sign my Nook cover – now that will be anachronistic before it’s a year old (I think Westerfeld would enjoy the irony).
Maybe, just maybe … there is hope for us all.
Happy Weekend!

That's awesome! I had no idea…
@Sherrie Cool, huh? π
Yeah, kind of wondered what would happen to book signings if we did away with the real deal. Can't do that on my iPod touch, though.
@Stina Yet. π
That's really kind of cool. π Now Kindle has to catch up!!
That is very cool!
Have a great weekend, Sue!!
That is truly awesome! π
Yeah…definitely best invention since sliced bread and animal crackers with frosting on them.
@LisaGG It's a constant game of tag with those two.
@PK Happy Weekend!
@Shannon Thanks for stopping by!
@Michael Now I want animal crackers. Happy Weekend!
Had no idea. How far we've come.
We took our Nook Color with us on vacation. I found it to be a mixed bag. (Couldn't pry it out of our daughter's fingers, though)Take a look at my post-before-last and see what I thought of it.
@writes And so quick!
@Carl Hopping over!
what a fun, cute thing they did! And keep that cover forever! That's a historic artifact! π <3
Interesting. Point for Nook for coming up with it.
The first question I asked was, "How are authors going to sign ebooks?" That was only last year. If I run fast enough maybe I'll at least stay in place.
@LTM Def keeping the cover. I mean, SCOTT WESTERFELD signed it. *faints*
@bfav Agreed!
@Clee I know what you mean!
This is such awesome news. Yesterday I watched a documentary on Pixar and they were talking about how traditional animators FREAKED out once 3D animation was introduced…which resulted in lots of unnecessary layoffs and an immediate decline in a STILL amazing art form. However, things worked out well for the animators that adapted (and even for a lot that didn't…hello, we still have regular cartoons out there!)
So, long comment short, we're probably a lot like that in publishing now. There's so many amazing new advances in epub technology that changing the book world, but we're adapting it to fit our needs! Guys! We're gonna be okay!
So sorry for the novel length comment, but this is really cool news. Thanks for sharing it, Susan!
@K.Marie I emphatically agree with what you've said. Learning to tackle the new challenges makes the turmoil of change survivable…
