“It is impossible to become like somebody else. Your only hope is to become more fully yourself. That is the reason for practicing meditation in the first place.” —Jon Kabat-Zinn, Full Catastrophe Living
So many authors suffer from comparison-itis—I did it myself early on, especially in those first painful years when you’re still struggling to find your voice and yourself as an author. But the truth is that you can’t write like anyone else—you can only write like you. And the idea that meditation is very much centered on that—the idea of becoming more fully yourself—smacked me in the face while reading this book. I can’t recommend it highly enough, and for a variety of reasons.
Because meditation calms you and changes you.
Because becoming is what you do as an author, not just telling stories.
Because so much of the world is about hustle and bustle and worry, and this book is like a relentlessly gentle guide into a place where you don’t have to live that way. Which means you have room and energy and time to explore your art.
Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Peace and love,
Sue
