I’m a huge advocate of Free Speech – as should be anyone in the US or who’s read the US Constitution. The correct response to hateful speech is social condemnation (which is not “censorship by the government” it’s “social repercussions for saying awful things”). I hear a lot of complaints from people with hateful (often sexist) views about their “free speech” being squelched when they’re shown the door because that nastiness isn’t welcome… and yet the same party (Republicans) who have made this a clarion call in their campaigns against “political correctness” have now literally USED THE GOVERNMENT to silence speech in the Senate.
As it happens, a speech about a racist nominee for US Attorney General.
Now, I know calling “hypocrisy” is about as useful as spitting in the wind. But this is the kind of government we’ve installed. This is why I #resist. This is #WhyIMarch.
